Opposites do not have to become more alike in order to exist within the same whole. Light and dark remain distinctly their own, each brought more clearly into view by its counterpart. Side by side, their contrast becomes the pattern. Our own contrasts give depth and dimension to who we are too. One experience changes the way another is felt, making each all the more vivid for having known the other.
